- The probably most famous landmark of Leipzig is the Monument to the Battle of the Nations (Völkerschlachtdenkmal), which commemorates the bloody battles of the Liberation Wars in 1813. Those who manage to climb the 364 steps to the observation platform are rewarded with a breathtaking view over Leipzig.
- If, like our author, you like to check out the shopping options in every new city, Leipzig will definitely not disappoint. Besides the 4-star department store Höfe am Brühl, the city center offers a diverse selection of brand stores and vintage shops. Also worth seeing are the old buildings, such as the Old Town Hall on the Market Square, which now houses the City History Museum.
- At Augustusplatz, cultural life pulses. The Gewandhaus concert hall, the opera, Leipzig University, and the City-Hochhaus frame the 40,000 sqm square. With its central location, it also regularly hosts various events such as the annual city festival or the upcoming Techniker Beach Volleyball Tour in July.
