The term "onboard" or "hand luggage" refers to items of luggage that are compact enough to be stowed in the overhead compartment directly above the seats on the plane. Unlike checked baggage, it does not have to be transported in the cargo hold, but can be taken into the cabin.

Hand Luggage on Different Airlines: Different Dimensions

The suitability of a piece of luggage for the cabin depends on the regulations of the respective airline, as each airline sets its own dimensions. These are checked directly at the check-in counter using a standardized box that has the prescribed maximum dimensions. Your cabin trolley and other hand luggage must fit completely into this box. The dimensions of carry-on luggage therefore refer not only to the main body of the bag. Handles, outer compartments, and the wheels of the cabin trolley are also measured – and this is how we measure the products in the bag department store.

The dimensions for carry-on luggage vary considerably from airline to airline. They generally range in size from 56 x 45 x 25 cm (height x width x depth) to 55 x 35 x 20 cm. In the bag store, all products that do not exceed the IATA (International Air Transport Association) recommended dimensions for hand luggage of max. 56 x 45 x 25 cm are marked as hand luggage. Please note, however, that this category may also include items of hand luggage that are considered too large by other airlines. Therefore, please check with your airline about the permitted dimensions for your carry-on luggage and select your model accordingly.
