Small suitcases often have their size S in their name, offer a volume of up to 50 liters, and are designed for a trip duration of one to three days. However, individual needs vary greatly: If you pack with discipline and, for example, don't take cosmetics in their original size but fill them up in smaller travel sizes, you can even manage more than three days with a small suitcase. The destination and the activities there also play a role: A small suitcase may be sufficient for a week's beach vacation – but not for a ski vacation.

Small Suitcase, Big Functionality – Ideal Companion for Short Trips

Small suitcases are ideal for weekend trips as well as business trips. The pilot case has established itself as a product type especially for business trips: In its typical landscape format, it offers optimally organized storage space for extensive files, a laptop, etc., as well as a separate area for a change of clothes and other items. Depending on the type of trip and means of transport, small suitcases made of different materials are recommended. A small suitcase with an extra impact-resistant hard shell made of aluminum or a modern plastic such as polycarbonate or polypropylene offers its contents optimal protection – for example, if the suitcase, despite its small size, is checked for transport in the cargo hold of an aircraft. Soft luggage made of lightweight and elastic synthetic fibers such as nylon or polyester, weatherproof tarpaulin, or even high-quality genuine leather, on the other hand, is supple and flexible – which can be quite advantageous in the airplane cabin, on a crowded train, or in the cramped trunk of a car.

Inside, the small suitcase securely holds its contents with tension straps, zipper covers, or both. Depending on the model, additional zippered compartments inside offer smaller items a safe place in the main compartment of the suitcase. External compartments of varying sizes are mainly found in soft luggage. Hard luggage, on the other hand, only has an extra compartment accessible from the outside in the special form of the hybrid suitcase.
