Ergobag School Bag Comparison

Ergobag School Bag Comparison

It's that time again – in summer, the little first-graders start school. That means it's school backpack season, and we're happy to advise you on our selection. The colorful school backpacks from ergobag are especially popular every year. Many people ask themselves when it comes to ergobag: Which model is the best fit? That's why we've taken a closer look at the different ergobag school backpack models and compared them with each other.

Ergobag Comparison: What Do the Models Have in Common?

Despite the differences between the ergobag models – the ergobag pack, ergobag cubo, and ergobag cubo light – which may initially seem completely different, these school backpacks also share important similarities that the developers at ergobag particularly emphasize.

Ergonomics

In terms of ergonomics, the pack, cubo, and cubo light all meet the same standard. The sturdy base tray protects the backpack from water and dirt. It also ensures that the models don’t tip over easily and can withstand minor falls. All ergobag school backpacks come with both a hip and a chest strap. The hip strap is especially important for shifting the weight from the shoulders to the more stable pelvic area. This relieves pressure on the child’s back and ensures a comfortable wearing experience even on long school days.
The chest strap, present on all models, is especially useful to accommodate the rapid growth of children or to adjust for wearing the backpack over different types of clothing throughout the seasons. The chest strap is easily adjustable in both height and width, allowing it to adapt to growth or to wearing a thick winter coat or a light summer T-shirt. It ensures that the shoulder straps stay securely in place even during running and rough play.

Individual Size Adjustment

All ergobag models can, of course, be perfectly adjusted to fit each child. The primary goal of size adjustment is to optimally relieve pressure on the child’s back and ensure a secure fit.
The innovative Your-Size-System in the ergobag pack and cubo allows the backpack to be continuously adjusted to the child’s height, from 1 meter to 1.50 meters tall. A lightweight aluminum frame provides the necessary stability. The breathable back padding fits comfortably along the child’s spine, making the backpack comfortable to wear even for long periods. This means the school backpacks can easily grow with the child from 1st through 4th grade.
The cubo light does not have the Your-Size-System, but it can still be easily adjusted to the child’s height using the shoulder straps.

Safety

Of course, all ergobag models are equipped with sufficient reflectors. These ensure good visibility in traffic and contribute to safety, even in darkness. For even more safety, there are three-piece color panel sets that can be easily zipped on or personalized Velcro patches ("Kletties"). These can be attached however you and your child like, giving the school backpack a more colorful and safer design.

Features and Interior Layout

All ergobag models feature a large main compartment that provides space for textbooks, notebooks, and pencil cases. In addition to the main compartment, there is also a front pocket made of waterproof material with sealed seams—perfect for storing a water bottle and lunch box. Even if a drink spills or yogurt leaks, the compartment can be easily wiped clean.
All ergobag school backpacks close with a magnetic clasp. This keeps the backpack securely shut and automatically snaps closed when the lid falls shut.

How Do the Ergobag Models Differ?

ergobag pack

Unlike the cubo and cubo light, the ergobag pack has a particularly modern design. A drawstring allows the backpack to be tightly compressed, making it very flexible and bringing the weight closer to the child's back. Because it closely resembles a casual backpack, many kids still love using it in 4th grade!
The ergobag pack stands out especially for its features. It has a magnetic buckle that can only be opened by sliding it sideways.
The interior layout is also slightly different due to its special shape. In addition to the usual compartments, it has a second, flexible divider inside, providing additional organization.
The pack set includes the school backpack, five Kletties (Velcro patches), a pencil pouch, a fully stocked pencil case, a sports bag, and a sturdy document box.

ergobag cubo

Unlike the pack, the ergobag cubo has a rigid, structured shape and is therefore more similar to the classic school backpack. Even for little adventurers who struggle to stay organized, the cubo provides clarity and structure. Its firm shape and enhanced stability quickly bring order and system to the backpack's contents.

In contrast to other brands, the ergobag cubo is not built wide as is typically expected. Instead, it has a vertical, upright design, which improves arm mobility and makes shoulder checks in traffic easier.

The magnetic clasp is a ring that can be easily opened with just one finger—child's play!

This model also comes as a set, although it’s a five-piece set. In addition to the school backpack, five Kletties (Velcro patches), a pencil pouch, and a filled pencil case, the cubo set includes a sports bag. This sports bag has a waterproof compartment and can be easily attached to the backpack using small eyelets.

ergobag cubo light

The ergobag cubo light was specially developed for smaller and more delicate first-graders. Unlike the ergobag cubo, the cubo light is a true lightweight at just 780 grams! In comparison, the ergobag pack and cubo weigh 1,100 grams, making them significantly heavier.

Like the cubo, this model has a vertical (portrait) design and is also noticeably more stable than the pack. Thanks to the innovative Hugging Carry System, the little school starter is practically embraced by their trusty companion. The carrying system fits snugly against the child’s back with particularly breathable and soft padding.

Instead of the usual Your-Size-System used in other ergobag models, the cubo light allows for size adjustment via the shoulder straps. The reduction in materials and the simplified design are what give the cubo light its weight advantage of over 300 grams.

The cubo light also features the easy-to-use ring-shaped magnetic clasp and comes as a five-piece set, including a simple sports bag.

We hope this model comparison was informative and made your school backpack decision easier. Still unsure whether to choose the ergobag cubo, pack, or cubo light? Then feel free to schedule a personal consultation at one of our stores!

One basic rule always applies:
You’ve found the right school backpack for your child if it fits perfectly, relieves pressure on their back, and makes them happy!
